Paramount released the first trailer for "Bumblebee," a spinoff of the blockbuster "Transformers" franchise featuring arguably its most popular character.

The Transformers series has taken a big hit over the last few years with its latest movie, The Last Knight, earning just $130 million domestically.

Now we're getting our first look at Bumblebee and John Cena as well.

'A driver don't pick the auto, the vehicle pick the driver, it's a mystical bond between man and machine, ' intones a voiceover, quoting the words of Uncle Bobby the used auto dealer from the first Transformers film. Charlie had previously spoken to Collider.com about the movie and her role.

For diehard fans of the Transformers franchise, the inclusion of Starscream is probably a very pleasant surprise.

Their affectionate bond is the heart of the story, as Charlie enjoys oceanside cruises and teaches her new friend to communicate through music (which results in an unfortunate Rickroll - you've been warned!) and gives meaning to Bee's presence on the planet, tearfully saying, "You've got people out there who need you". She's in high school.

Directed by Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) from a script by Christina Hodson, Bumblebee stars Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Pamela Adlon, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny. Bumblebee opens in theaters on December 21st.

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town.

The trailer shows Charlie Watson (played by Hailee Steinfield) picking out the iconic yellow VW Beetle, which then quickly morphs into its robo-alter-ego Bumblebee and is actually quite adorable.
