Nashville police say the suspect was taken into custody and there no longer was any threat at the Opry Mills mall.

The mall was evacuated after the gunfire broke out, and several nearby schools were locked down, The Tennessean reported.

The mall was being swept by Metro Nashville police as a precaution.

Police have descended on a shopping mall in Nashville, Tennessee, after reports of an active shooter.

Aaron said two shots were fired following an altercation near an Old Navy store.

"I want to see her; I want to get to her". "The suspected gunman left the mall building and immediately surrendered".

Police believed the victim and the shooter had a history, and police suspect the dispute had been "festering" and was "not a spur-of-the-moment thing".

"We are staging with @MNPDNashville as they clear the mall". The retired officer was in a ticket booth near the mall when witnesses ran in screaming, "Shooter!"

The 22-year-old victim who was shot was taken to Skyline Medical Center in critical condition, where he later died, the station reports.

Some locations in the area have also been placed on lockdown in response to the shooting, such as Gaylord Opryland Hotel, with people now being prohibited from entering or leaving. That person's condition wasn't known. The identity of the person wasn't immediately released after Thursday's shooting.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol was utilizing the parking lot at Bass Pro Shop for motorcycle training.

There were no further reported injuries, according to the Nashville Fire Department.
