Junior Lokosa gets call up for Super Eagles duty for the first time

Nigeria have released the provisional list of the Super Eagles for the summer FIFA World Cup.

Al Ahly forward Junior Ajayi was not included in Nigeria's preliminary squad after he had received his first call in Nigeria's most recent gathering in March. Lokosa is the only home-based outfield player in the squad, which has no room for Al Ahli's Junior Ajayi or Everton's Henry Onyekuru.

The Kano Pillars hotshot has scored 18 goals in 20 matches played so far in the current NPFL season - including a brace against Katsina United on Sunday.

There are no surprise inclusions in defence with the eagles regular back four including William Ekong and Leon Balogun making the list.

A quintuple of Leon Balogun, Wilfred Ndidi, Etebo Oghenekaro, Joel Obi and Tyrone Ebuehi who are recuperating from injury also made the lists.

The attackers are Ahmed Musa (CSKA Moscow, Russia); Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City, England); Moses Simon (KAA Gent, Belgium); Victor Moses (Chelsea FC, England); Odion Ighalo (Changchun Yatai, China); Alex Iwobi (Arsenal FC, England); and another newcomer, Nwankwo Simeon (Crotone FC, Italy).

The Super Eagles will be making a sixth appearance at the World Cup tournament in Russian Federation where they will play Argentina, Iceland and Croatia in Group D.
