Of the two teams even though the Celtics are seeded 2nd and the Cavaliers are seeded 4th in the Eastern Conference playoffs the Cleveland team and Leborn have more pressure on them then the Celtics do in regards to the importance and need for a win in game 2. The Celtics remained undefeated at home in the postseason with a 107-94 win over the Cavaliers on Tuesday.
James also delivered 12 assists and 10 rebounds, scoring 21 of Cleveland's 27 points in the first quarter. But without much help otherwise (aside from Kevin Love's 22 points and 15 boards), the ridiculous performance was for naught.
James, who managed just 15 points in the Game 1 loss, has won five consecutive East playoff series after losing the series opener. But now, as the team representative in the war room at tonight's NBA Lottery in NY, he's put an important question to his Twitter followers.
"We have a group of guys who really believe in each other", Celtics forward Al Horford said. "We go out there, we compete".
Or has this current Celtics unit - sans superstars Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward, mind you - simply perfected the meaning of team basketball and subsequently used each opponents weaknesses to an immediate advantage?
James never got them down. Cleveland got outscored by 32 with him on the floor - tied for his worst-ever plus-minus in a playoff game.
"We lost", Lue said. "We're going to use these days to really dive in on what needs to be done to help our ballclub be successful". "They did what they had to do to protect home court and now it is our time as well". He was disappointing in the earlier rounds because they lost his offense, but the Celtics can not be sacrificing that while trying to account for James.
The lead was down to six, and James appeared to be locking into takeover mode, when Stevens called timeout with 4:41 left in the fourth quarter.
Tensions boiled over when Cleveland's JR Smith shoved Horford on a drive to the basket.
Stevens wants to avoid talking about shot selection with not just Smart, but his entire Celtics team. Cleveland waved the white flag and emptied its bench after that.
The Cavaliers are 55-18 when they reach the century mark, while the Celtics are 50-14.
Early on, it seemed as if this night would belong to James and the Cavaliers. In Game 2, James was all but unstoppable as he replied with a 46-point, 12-rebound performance.
The C's certainly made it hard on James and his supporting cast during Game 1, but that frankly means nothing to Boston's players and coaching staff heading into Game 2. Jaylen [Brown] started the game on him, Marcus [Smart] was guarding him a tonne.
Boston might have the right head coach and good enough players to upset Cleveland, though the way they crushed the Cavs should prove to be an anomaly. We knew coming into this game that he was going to come out and give everything he had and he was going to have a game like this. "We do have some guys that have been through these young playoff series, albeit a lot less of them (than Cleveland), but we do feel like even in the last month we've been through a lot of different challenges".
