Red Sox starter Eduardo Rodriguez struck Moustakas with an errant 85 miles per hour pitch.
Kansas City (+240) is hosting this game as the underdog to Boston (-275) and Vegas has put the Over/Under for this night game at 7.5 runs. The Royals are just 7-20 on the season, while the Rangers are slightly better at 11-18.
Hammel was tagged for eight runs on eight hits in 4 2/3. Roark (2-2) allowed two runs on six hits, struck out four and induced two double-play grounders for his first win since April 2 as the Nationals ended a disappointing April with their second straight victory. Since Rodriguez did not qualify for the win due to official scoring rules, Hector Velazquez (4-0) was awarded the victory after pitching two scoreless innings.
For Tuesday's outing, the Royals are calling on RHP Jakob Junis. Boston also tied the major league record set by the 1996 Montreal Expos by hitting its sixth grand slam before May 1. Sonny Gray (1-2) yielded four hits and two runs while walking three in six innings to snap a streak of three straight starts in which he didn't get out of the fifth inning.
Trailing, 6-3, the Royals fought back in the fourth on a hit batter, and RBI doubles from Alcides Escobar and Whit Merrifield. In his 32.1 innings and 3-2 mark this year, Junis has a 3.34 ERA with 25 Ks and seven walks. That's plenty comfortable heading into a series with the Yankees, and the confidence from that could be just what they need to again take 2 out of 3 from NY. Could the Boston Bruins complete the trifecta in game two of their second round National Hockey League playoff series against the Tampa Bay Lightning? The second-best 19-game start belonged to the 1946 Red Sox, who went 16-3 en route to a 104-win season and an American League pennant. J.D. Martinez (run, two RBI) had four of the Red Sox's seven hits in the contest: no other player had more than one. After Hand walked Brandon Belt on a full count to load the bases, Hundley came through with the game-winner.
Bogaerts' has hit two of the six. Craig Kimbrel (1-1) earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief. He has yet to face the Red Sox this year and did not record a start against them in 2017, either. The club's starters have an ERA of 3.26, a WHIP of 1.14 and a strikeouts-per-nine of 9.3. Fultz may go on to have a stellar career but he's been mostly an afterthought for Philly this season, beset by injuries, and even though he was healthy enough to go last night, he never got the nod to do so.
Pinch hitter Nick Hundley capped a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning with a two-out, two-run, walk-off single, lifting San Francisco to a victory over visiting San Diego. He faces the Royals for the 33 time and makes his 22 career start against them here. Morton (4-0) had allowed just one hit when Gleyber Torres chased him with a two-out double in the eighth.
Kansas City has sputtered out of the gate and they're only remotely in the playoff picture simply because the AL Central has been so average this season. That doesn't bode well facing a Boston lineup that can hammer the ball.
