DJI And Microsoft Partner To Bring Advanced Drone Technology To The Enterprise

Microsoft today announced at its Build conference the preview launch of Project Brainwave, its platform for running deep learning models in its Azure cloud and on the edge in real time.

Microsoft has also joined hands with Qualcomm for a vision AI platform on Azure IoT edge.

A new way to connect your phone to your PC with Windows 10 that enables instant access to text messages, photos and notifications. Imagine being able to quickly drag and drop your phone's photos into a document on your PC in one swift movement - without having to take your phone out of your pocket.

While Microsoft has moved away from Windows as an operating system for smartphones, the company is now focused on enabling users to more easily interact between Windows PCs and their iOS or Android device. The growth of so-called "edge computing" will see increasingly smarter devices develop, able to do their own local processing before feeding what's important to the cloud.

Previous year at Build, Microsoft officials talked up the edge-computing piece of the company's evolving "intelligent cloud/intelligent edge" strategy. Expect Microsoft to showcase new technologies, which just like AI are not only to do with developers and apps, but those that cater to industrial setups as well. At Build 2018, Microsoft will detail how it using AI and machine learning to solve mission-critical problems and how the technology is being baked into core Microsoft products including Windows, Office 365 and Dynamics.

For developers, Microsoft announced it is open sourcing its Azure IoT Edge runtime, and that the Custom Vision Azure Cognitive Service will run on Azure IoT edge. There could also be new developments around Microsoft 365 and Visual Studio IDE. Microsoft is also expanding its Sets experience to third-party apps, allowing users to group apps together in a tabbed interface.

"Building on Kinect's legacy that has lived on through HoloLens, Project Kinect for Azure empowers new scenarios for developers working with ambient intelligence", the company said at Build.

The packaging of products like Your Phone and the company's Android launcher are apps that deliver value to those that are "all-in" in the Microsoft ecosystem but the company does not have an easy way to market these benefits.
