Governor Charlie Baker said MA should look into legalized sports betting, now that the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a federal law that mostly prohibits it. That could create an entirely new advertising category that radio managers might want to keep their eyes on.

The U.S. Supreme Court upheld a New Jersey law from 2014 that allowed betting at casinos and racetracks in that state.

Montana already could allow sports gambling because old laws were grandfathered in when the US passed anti-gambling legislation in 1992. A 2013 state law that enabled four commercial casinos to open includes a provision that allows sports gambling if the federal ban is lifted.

Sports gambling proponents argue that the leagues already do that work, and that legal sports betting will make enforcement easier than it is now, when most bets in the us are made illegally. Delaware, Mississippi and West Virginia are among the states that also appear poised to move quickly.

However, other states that want to allow sports betting could still see several Super Bowls come and go before people there can place a legal bet close to home.

But Gov. John Carney on Monday said the state is now seeing if it can offer full sports betting.

All four major sports issued statements on the ruling about preserving the integrity of their game with the National Football League discussing working with Congress on strict regulation. Some states like New Jersey are well positioned to get in on the action very soon.

Texas Governor Gregg Abbott has shown little interest in sports betting and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in 2016 issued an opinion that deemed paid fantasy sports websites to be illegal gambling.

Before the ruling, Nevada was the only state where sports betting was permitted. "I'm not an avid follower of sports betting, but it seemed to me, why should it only be in Vegas?" But don't expect either Iowa or IL to legalize sports gambling right away.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, an investor in the esports betting site Unikrn, pointed out in an interview with ESPN that gambling is already legal in numerous countries, and said that with the federal restriction lifted it's now just a matter of "leveraging up" to bring esports gambling to the US.

IL is already saturated with gaming, including video gaming, horse race tracks and casinos, to the point that admissions to casinos are down 3 million to 4 million a year, Mr. Swoik said.

The NFLPA, MLB, and NCAA have all backed the decision by the Supreme Court. Orrin Hatch of Utah, who said Monday he will introduce sports betting legislation. William Hill operates the largest number of sports books in Nevada.

Casinos fought for the approval to take sports bets because it's an important way to draw customers into the casinos. "Considering the widespread availability of illegal forms of betting, if tax rates are not calibrated correctly, we believe the regulated market's total handle-and win-will suffer as a result", S&P Global Ratings analysts said in a report earlier this month.
