Comey takes to Twitter to knock Giuliani for calling Federal Bureau of Investigation agents 'stormtroopers'

Law professor Daniel Richman previously worked as a “special government employee” for the FBI on an unpaid basis. GOP lawmakers say they want more information on that arrangement

Giuliani: Comey was fired because he wouldn't say Trump "wasn't a target" of Russia probe

President Donald Trump's motive for firing former FBI Director James Comey a year ago was that Comey wouldn't publicly exonerate the President from his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, Trump's new lawyer said Wednesday night. "There are no "stormtroopers" there; just a group of people devoted to the rule of law and the truth", Comey wrote on his Twitter account Thursday.

Mr. Giuliani's comments about Mr. Comey were overshadowed by his disclosure that Mr. Trump reimbursed his longtime lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, for hush money paid before the election to Stephanie Clifford, a pornographic film actress who has said she had an affair with Mr. Trump.

"I know the New York FBI, " Comey, who once served as USA attorney for the Southern District of New York, wrote on Twitter on Thursday morning.

Though Giuliani was not mentioned by name in the tweet, it was clear that Comey was targeting him.

Giuliani told The Washington Post that Cohen knew he would get paid back eventually.

In recent days, as Giuliani has made several media appearances, he has taken repeated shots at Comey, whom Trump fired previous year.

It also comes as the president's legal team is debating whether to allow Mr. Trump to be interviewed by special counsel Robert Mueller's team.

"You can bet that given Richman's role at the FBI and [he and Comey's] close relationship that this wasn't the first time that leaks like this occurred", Fitton said, calling for a "credible investigation" into Comey's leaking.

Giuliani called Comey a "disgraceful liar, " adding that "they should put him in the same jail cell" as Martha Stewart, the business executive and television personality.

In addition to contradicting past statements by President Trump and the White House regarding the payment to Stormy Daniels, Rudy Giuliani's appearance last night on Sean Hannity's Fox News Channel show was also notable because it appears to confirm that President Trump fired F.B.I.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agents raided Cohen, a longtime lawyer and Trump confidant, on April 9 in search of information about the payoff, seizing documents, records and cellphones from his home, office and hotel room.
