Northern Ireland man PJ Conlon is to make his debut in the American Major League of Baseball on Monday night.
NY selected the contract of left-hander P.J. Conlon from Las Vegas of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, and the 24-year-old is to start Monday against the Reds in his big league debut.
Conlon and his family emigrated to America when he was just two-years-old.
The Mets emphasized they are being overly cautious with their starting pitcher's health.
"We thought long and hard about this", Callaway said before a 3-2 loss Sunday to the Colorado Rockies. Conforto belted his first homer since Opening Day to put the Mets in front for good and added a single later in the contest for his first multi-hit effort of the month. That promising 11-1 start is fading fast. He reluctantly went to the bullpen after struggling as a starter, and things didn't improve. We went through a lot of wars. I told him a year ago, 'Matt, your only problem is you set the bar so high, you expect so much of yourself that anything besides that is not going to be good enough in your eyes. He slumped to 4-10 the following season before having season-ending surgery to fix thoracic outlet syndrome and went just 5-7 with a 6.70 ERA last season.
The New York Mets are based in the New York City borough of Queens. You could see them in the stands, waving the Irish flags.
Bailey, considered the Reds' staff ace, is healthy even if the results for a pitcher who has thrown two no-hitters in the majors aren't visible.
Gonzalez had a pair of solo shots as the Mets set a season high with four home runs.
"We're in a situation in NY where we've got to find some players", Collins said.
This is Bailey's worst start since he was 0-6 in his first eight games as a rookie in 2008.
The Mets are now on a six-game losing streak having enjoyed a positive start to the season.
