Born as Ajith to Kottayam native Padmanabhan and Saraswathi, he later changed his name to Kollam Ajith as he was born and brought up in Kollam.
Actor Kollam Ajith, a popular face in Malayalam cinema in the 1990s, died on Thursday morning in Kochi.
Following this success, there was no looking back for the talented actor, who went on to act in over 500 films in all South Indian languages. During his film career, he aced villain roles and was known for the same.
A popular face in the Malayalam film industry, Ajith was known for his villainous roles in the movie. He had acted in over 600 films which also include Tamil, Telugu and Hindi movies. He is survived by his wife Prameela, daughter Gayathri and son Sreehari. He was considered for most negative roles after the 1987 film.
The mortal remains were taken to Kollam, where the last rites would be performed. Nobody else played a better villain than Kollam Ajith.
Leading actor Manju Warrier and Mammootty also took to Facebook to pay tribute to Ajith.
Later, he also donned the hat of a writer and director with the film Calling Bell. "Condolence to Ajith who had successfully adorned a variety of characters".
