Wade leads Heat to road win

Philadelphia's adjustment is 7-foot-2, and he stood on the sideline Monday night.

The Heat had to have this one - a brooding Joel Embiid is angling for a comeback. He had the midrange game working and was looking for his shot much more on Monday night.

At least once during this series Dwyane Wade was going to have a game that made everyone think it was 2006. A 21-7 run was stopped when an ageless Dwyane Wade punished the Sixers with a breakway dunk to highlight his 28-point outburst off the bench and build the lead back to eight points with two to play. Again, there was no timetable on when Embiid would return this series, if at all.

If Wade can give the Heat those sorts of performances throughout this series the upset might be live for the Heat. But Philadelphia could get no closer.

When asked about the Instagram post, Embiid told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne: "I promised the city the playoffs and I'm not on the court and I may not be on Thursday either". They won 16 straight to end the regular season and the first game of the playoffs. After being pummelled from three (Philly shot better than 62 percent in Game 1) 130-103, they seemed very focused on slowing Philly down and messing up their pace of play. The series is now tied 1-1 heading back to Miami.

The three-point shot opens up so much for the 76ers - it turns their offence into one of the most dynamic in the National Basketball Association. Covington and J.J. Redick combined to shoot 2 of 16.

Brown said Embiid's post also spoke volumes about the competitive spirit the Sixers have built this season. "Some of our guys had a rough night. When seeking to become a whole team, you need Joel Embiid". Justise Winslow and company took away Ben Simmons' space. Miami made it hard for the Sixers to inbounds the ball.

As Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said going in, it didn't matter how the Heat escaped Philadelphia with a victory, only that they did. The Sixers struggled to adapt.

Philly missed some open 3-pointers, but Miami's physical defense deserves credit for disrupting shooters.

"I play the game for these moments", Wade said. "Their ball pressure was excellent".

Wade made eight of his nine shot attempts in the first half, with five of those coming from mid-range and majority of the contested variety.

Miami's strategy was at its best in the second quarter when it outscored the Sixers 34-13. Dario Saric had 23 points and nine rebounds.

"I hate this feeling but maybe it's a good reminder for everybody for next game to lock in", Simmons said.

The days leading into Game 3 will focus on Embiid's health.

"F*****g sick and exhausted of being babied", the Cameroonian wrote in an Instagram story. He underwent surgery to fix the fracture.

Brown said before Monday's game that Embiid still hasn't participated in team drills with contact since suffering his injury. He wants to be in front of the fans. "I respect his frustration".
