Salman Khan gets bail in black buck poaching case

Salman Khan released on bail

In 2015, a Bombay High Court overturned Khan's conviction in a hit-and-run case in which he was accused of running over a group of people sleeping on a city sidewalk, killing one and injuring four.

If media footages from the two days at Jodhpur are anything to go by, Salman Khan's fans still worship him with the passion of a thousand suns.

"Arguments were already over in the morning but Judge Joshi reserved the order for post lunch". He, however, was granted bail and released on Saturday after paying a bond of Rs.50,000 and two sureties of like amount.

Salman, who has spent two nights in Jodhpur Central Jail since his sentencing by a trial court on Thursday, will now be able to stay free while he appeals his conviction.

Salman Khan was convicted and sentenced to five-year imprisonment by the Jodhpur session court on April 5, while five other accused were acquitted. He is also developing Bharat, a movie based on the Korean drama, Ode to My father, which could also c0-star, Priyanka Chopra.

In its 10-page bail order, the court said the trial judge acquitted his Bollywood colleagues Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam and Sonali Bendre and a local, Dushyant Singh, giving them the "benefit of doubt" for the incident.

Prosecutors asserted in court that Salman should not be given the bail.

Meanwhile, fans have gathered outside his residence in Mumbai celebrating the release of the actor from the jail. Khan's lawyer HM Saraswat had filed a bail application in the court immediately after the sentencing, and on the same premises.

"However, since knowledge of the blackbuck case is public for around two decades, the impact on Salman or the brands endorsed by him may not be that severe". In a late night development, Joshi was transferred to Sirohi as part of a reshuffle.

An Indian court jailed Bollywood star Salman Khan for five years for poaching on Thursday, lawyers said, a sentence likely to derail the career of one of the country's most popular actors.

"We are very happy that Salman has got bail…Salim Khan saab and his family had got a big relief". But the actor's legal travails are not yet over as the case will come up for hearing again on May 7.
