Protester Jumped Barricade Outside Bill Cosby Trial

Cosby paid accuser $3.38m as assault retrial continues

Bill Cosby Paid Sex-Assault Accuser Nearly $3.4 Million in Settlement, Prosecutor Says

The number was made public for the first time on Monday as Cosby returned to court for his trial on three counts of aggravated indecent assault.

The defense will deliver its opening statement on Tuesday in a trial that is expected to last a month.

His lawyers say he and Ms Constand shared a romantic relationship after they met at Mr Cosby's old university.

"The evidence in this case will show that Andrea Constand didn't come to us".

His retrial is taking place in a radically changed and potentially more hostile environment.

She jumped over a crowd barrier outside the courthouse and yelled "Women's lives matter" before being wrestled to the ground by courthouse deputies about 10 yards in front of Cosby as he walked toward the building's front doors. Also known as Nicole Leach, she was quickly detained and placed into local police custody, but not before creating a surprising and chaotic scene as Cosby's sexual assault trial gets underway once again.

She was charged with disorderly conduct and faces a fine of about $35 plus court costs, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney's office. As a young girl, Rochelle appeared in four episodes of "The Cosby Show" between 1990 and 1992, playing a character named Danielle.

The first day of the retrial against Bill Cosby started off with several protests, including one leading to the arrest of a topless woman.

Opening statements were delayed for hours after the defense team moved to strike one juror, who was allegedly overheard saying: "I just think he's guilty, so we can all be done and get out of here". "When somebody is drugged, they do not have the ability... to consent", he said. She instructed jurors that Cosby drugged and attacked in 1996, in much the identical way that Constand testified Cosby failed to her at 2004 at his house. More than 40 women have accused the 80 year old entertainer of sexual assault. Yet while those stars have faced professional repercussions, Cosby is now the only once-powerful celebrity facing criminal charges. The case has helped demolish his image as America's Dad, cultivated during his eight-year run as kindly Dr. Cliff Huxtable on the top-rated "The Cosby Show" in the 1980s and '90s.

Dennis McAndrews, a lawyer not associated with the trial, told THR that the settlement amount will likely be a big part of the prosecution's case.

The Little Falls, New Jersey native was topless.

A seven-man, five-woman jury was selected last week.

The actor, who starred in the 1980s TV series The Cosby Show, has faced allegations from dozens of other women but has denied them all.

He also introduced to the jury what a common scheme, plan or design and absence of mistake is, which his team plans to use in arguments to prove Cosby had a specific plan to hurt women.

O'Neill has handed a win to the defense in allowing testimony from a former co-worker who alleges that Constand schemed against Cosby.

O'Neill ruled that prosecutors may call as many as five girls in the group of 8 accusers that includes former model and television character Janice Dickinson. "After this was released, we go to her", Steele told the jury. "The many reasons to say no to this are outweighed by the one simple reason to say yes: because it's the right thing to do".
