It didn't take long for the San Francisco 49ers to reach out to the newly available Richard Sherman.

Seattle Seahawks' Richard Sherman (25) eats turkey during a TV interview on the field after the San Francisco 49ers' lost 19-3 in their National Football League game against Seattle Seahawks at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014.

Thomas Davis may have provided a clue to how he feels when the Panthers' veteran linebacker posted a picture on Instagram of him and Sherman together on Friday.

Sherman's release was a cost-cutting move.

Of course, this is all dependent on Sherman actually leaving Northern California without a contract.

Sherman, 29, is coming off a 2017 campaign that saw him miss seven games with an Achilles injury.

Sherman is also expected to undergo a physical and meet with team doctors to talk about the Achilles tendon he tore previous year, NFL Network reported.

"I want to go to a contender", Sherman said Friday on KIRO radio in Seattle. The team has a talented corner in Darius Slay.

Sherman had surgery to fix his right Achilles in November. Sherman calls his free agency an "ongoing process".

He also turned his tongue to players.

San Francisco started the offseason with a $137.5 million pact with impending free agent Jimmy Garoppolo.

The Seahawks on Wednesday traded Michael Bennett to the Eagles and are also expected to soon release defensive end Cliff Avril, who may not be able to play football again after suffering a neck/nerve injury in October that required surgery. The Seahawks will add $11 million in salary cap space for 2018 with his departure.
