And as you can see, it still looks stunning 56 years later.

But there's one secret behind her Oscars gown which many may not have known: Rita has worn it to the Academy Awards before, all the way back in 1962. "It's been hanging in my closet".

Fifty-six years later, the actress hit the red carpet at tonight's 90th Annual Academy Awards wearing the same look. "They didn't have a red carpet then, it was so different".

There's an wonderful secret behind Rita Moreno's Oscars gown. Rita topped off the timeless gown with a pair of long black gloves, a bold gold and black necklace, earrings, and a black headband. Making a slight change to the silhouette, Moreno turned the high, boat neckline cut of the dress into a strapless neckline.

Moreno chose to re-wear the same dress as she wore to the Oscars in 1962, when she scooped the Best Actress award for her role in West Side Story. She had no clue that she would win, she told Seacrest on Sunday night. Her daughter Fernanda Luisa Fisher first told Vanity Fair during Oscar rehearsals of her mother's outfit choice, and Moreno herself later confirmed that she was going to bring back the dress on Twitter.

"I had no idea I was going to win, I was sure it was going to be Judy Garland for Judgment at Nuremberg".
