Excitement around every corner for the sequel to the female hero that everyone loves.

Kristen Wiig will join the next "Wonder Woman" film, confirmed director Patty Jenkins.

"So excited to confirm the most thrilling news", she wrote on Twitter.

The character, a feline-esque adversary with super strength and speed, was first introduced in Wonder Woman No. 6 in 1943.

"So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family", Jenkins tweeted Friday.

Jenkins said in her post that she "can't wait to finally work with one of my favourites" and is very excited by what they have planned.

Although this role is going to be one of the tougher roles with hard to impress fans, Wiig seems to be the flawless fit. Patty Jenkins will return to direct the sequel, with Gal Gadot returning to the titular role.

The 44-year-old actress and comedian isn't new to box office success either, most notably for her own writing and acting skills in Bridesmaid (which see received an Oscar nom for). Also, let us not forget those fangs and claws.

But the reason it's cheap is because it's the one ideal example of this kind of situation (well, ignoring what happened to Ledger in real life, which we are doing): Hire an actor you would never think of for the role of a famous villain, people freak out, actor wins an Oscar for the performance.

Wonder Woman 2 just became a lot more intriguing, as if that was even possible. Tell us your thoughts in the comments!
