Leighton says Davis Sr. had a lot of friends and was well liked within the National Guard. James Davis, Sr., 48, was a part-time police officer in IL, his mother, 47, a flight attendant. His son, Eric Davis Jr. has been charged with killing his parents.

He is a 19-year-old black male who is approximately 5-foot-10 and 135 pounds.

Davis Jr. had contact with the police on Thursday relating to a possible drug interaction or overdose, prior to the shooting.

Davis was released from the hospital on Friday morning, shortly before the shooting. He may have taken off the hoodie, police said. He also said Davis Sr.'s contributions to the Bellwood community positively impacted everyone he served and served with.

Police said two people who aren't students have been fatally shot at a residence hall at Central Michigan University.

That suspect, James Eric Davis Jr.is on the run, the search is underway and his classmates are trying to make sense of what happened. It was reported that Davis had been released from a local hospital an hour earlier.

Anyone with information should call police immediately.

The shots were reportedly heard on the 4th floor of Campbell Hall on CMU's west campus. The game will be closed to the public except for previously-identified family members, CMU said.

"Whether there was a mental health component that was in conjunction with that, we don't know", Lt. Larry Klaus said told reporters, adding that police were still putting together "pieces of the puzzle" about the shooting and any motive.

Central Michigan University cancelled Saturday classes at the Mount Pleasant campus.
