The player takeover actually began Monday morning. It's an exhausting stretch both physically and mentally for athletes.

After securing his 250th win with the franchise on Saturday, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr made a decision to hand over the coaching duties and take a break against the Phoenix Suns on Monday night.

When the Phoenix Suns lost the first three games of the season by a combined 92 points, it was easy to assume that it would be a (very) long campaign for the franchise.

One of the questions about Wednesday's 7:30 p.m. matchup between the Golden State Warriors and Portland Trail Blazers at Moda Center is this: Who will hold the clipboard in timeouts for the Warriors?

Gap in offensive talent - The Warriors are the best offensive team in the National Basketball Association, if not of all time, and score 113.6 points per 100 possessions. The Warriors didn't only damage their own brand but put a stain on the league for the amount of disrespect they displayed. But maybe Kerr is onto something here. "I think that's one of the first things you have to consider as a coach: It's not your team, it's not Bob Myers' team, it's not Joe Lacob's team - although I'm not gonna tell Joe that".

At this point in the season, that may not be such a bad thing as the Suns aim their focus on the 2018 NBA Draft and the lottery pick that they will surely be utilizing. Rather than going through his usual work coaching the team, he chose to allow his players to do the work for him. Like, we probably don't need a coach.

"I embrace it. You have to get it done". But at a time the Warriors struggled trying in forgettable February game, the Warriors finally found some objective.

After the game, Kerr told reporters that he chose to let guys some of his players because "it's the players' team". First it was Andre Iguodala.

West has been the most efficient and productive big man on Golden State's roster this season, posting the team's third-highest player efficiency rating (23.7) behind Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant. He stood off to the side with his back turned while players took turns coaching. If so, you have to find a way to reach them emotionally. For example, he's identified leadership qualities in Green, whom he used to coach for most of the game.

"I told Jay afterward that it had nothing to do with being disrespectful", Kerr said. By stepping aside and letting the players coach themselves.

Here are a couple of things I enjoyed in sports this week.

"Their record says they're the same team", Lillard said. On Monday, she captured the gold medal for halfpipe with a stunning score of 98.25.

Takeaway: There are many ways to empower employees.
