The PSL opening ceremony will start at 7:00pm (PST) Thursday, and will be followed by Peshawar Zalmi vs Multan Sultans match at 10pm (PST).

Pakistan Super League new entrants Multan Sultans beat defending champions Peshawar Zalmi by seven-wickets in the opening match of the third edition of the T20 league in Dubai last night.

Pakistan has staged its global fixtures in the United Arab Emirates in recent years as it grapples with militant violence.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi said he hopes that in 2019 the entire tournament will be played at home.

"We are very satisfied that PSL has become an worldwide brand in two years". The final is to be held at Karachi's National Stadium on March 25, according to the PSL schedule.

Who will win the third edition of the PSL?

Following a countdown to the big launch, the event officially began with the national anthem of Pakistan.

Hareem Fatima and Bilal Ashraf spoke briefly but soon made way for master presenter Ramiz Raja, who introduced the league's expansion franchise: the Multan Sultans.

Islamabad United won the inaugural edition of PSL in 2016 while Peshawar Zalmi took the top honours in 2017 beating Quetta Gladiators.

The biggest performance of the evening, however, came from U.S. pop star Jason Derulo who sung some of his hit numbers.

The one worry people had about Multan Sultans was the absence of enough power hitters, Shoaib Malik's men instead topping up on classical batsmen.
