The 2019 Ford Transit Connect Wagon made its official debut at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show.

The diesel engine to be fitted on the Connect Wagon is a 1.5-liter EcoBlue rated at 30 mpg highway fuel economy and paired with a new 8-speed automatic transmission. The Baby Boomer generation stands at some 111 million people, and since most are in their fifties, meaning at the end of their careers, 63 percent of American financial assets are in their hands. And one in three Boomers plans to purchase a vehicle in the next three years, according to AARP. The Transit Connect Wagon's 2017 sales of 34,470 units were almost double the next runner up, the Nissan NV200. Ford is marketing the wagon to some of those buyers. "My Transit Connect lets me pull double duty".

What's missing from Ford's announcement for the 2019 Transit Connect Wagon is any mention of a hybrid powertrain. The feature is included with Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection - a segment-exclusive.

Ford says the best-selling small cargo van appeals to entreprenurial Baby Boomers in particular who want to be able to haul cargo or passengers. "There's a lot of opportunity for growth, especially with the new driver assist technologies and comfort features". Adaptive Cruise Control is an option and slows the vehicles when traffic is detected.

A Lane Keeping System is available that vibrates the steering wheel and can apply extra steering torque to keep the vehicle centered on the road.

As ever, there will be plenty of ways to customize your Transit Connect, with XL, XLT, and Titanium trim levels, plus the choice between the short- and long-wheelbase models with five or seven seats, respectively. A spacious, flexible interior makes loading cargo a cinch. There are duel sliding doors and available roof rails to secure and carry equipment for extracurricular activities like surfing or biking. Ford is working on making Waze compatibility on the model a reality as well. There is a new Ford plus Alexa assistant technology in SYNC 3 infotainment system. And with stop-start ignition, the gasoline engine ought to deliver better economy than the outgoing version as well. It will also get the new 8-speed transmission.

The Transit Connect Wagon is expected to be one of the most affordable seven-passenger vehicles in the United States.

That's the low-volume wagon (or "small minivan") version of its Transit Connect small commercial delivery van. Actual mileage will vary.
