1X Alcatel was the first Android smartphone to Go

The middle ground of the new lineups includes three phones: the 3, 3X, and 3V, which differ primarily on the size of their display. Google's Android Go Edition smartphones come with pre-loaded Google Go apps which are developed for low memory devices.

The Alcatel 5 has an HD+ (1440x720 pixels) panel, an octa-core MediaTek MT6750, 2GB/3GB ram and 16GB or 32GB of expandable storage. While Alcatel is known for offering low-priced smartphones in the Western markets, the company also launched a few devices in the Indian market. The camera can also capture images at 16MP resolution. It is backed by a MediaTek MT8735A quad-core processor clocked at 1.45GHz and offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Why 18:9 instead of 2:1?

While Alcatel has loaded its new entry level tablets - the Alcatel 1T 7 and Alcatel 1T 10 with Android 8.1 Oreo, the Alcatel 5 runs Android Nougat. There's also a FaceID-style facial recognition unlock feature this time around, called Face Key. The really big deal is the dual-camera setup on the front, which outfits one 13-megapixel camera with standard angle lens, and a 5-megapixel camera with 120-degree super wide angle lens.

The Alcatel 1T 7 costs just €70 in Europe, while the larger 10-inch model costs around €100. Also, the mode has a parental control interface that allows parents to set usage limits. At the top end is the 3V, which sports a 6-inch 2K resolution screen, with a dual camera setup that's created to take portrait mode style shots.

1X Alcatel thickness exceeded 9 mm, and the cell phone has a plastic housing and therefore weighs only 130 grams. There's no mention if it will be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo. It also sports a 3,000mAh battery, which isn't half bad given the price-tag.

Every smartphone maker from Apple to Alcatel is embracing edge-to-edge displays, as evidenced by the latter's lineup of devices on display at Mobile World Congress. The Alcatel 5 offers a dual-lens front-facing camera on a budget.

Android Go is nearly the same of the Top, which left only the most basic functions, which allowed to reduce resource consumption to a minimum. There's 16GB of built-in storage and a microSD card slot if you need more storage, a 2,460mAh battery powering the whole package, and a fingerprint sensor on select models. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, FM Radio, and MicroUSB 2.0 port. Stay tuned on PhoneRadar for more details!
