The Heisman Trophy victor couldn't convert those opportunities, and plenty of Sooners fans wished Mayfield had been given a whole lot more chances to conjure his usual magic during Georgia's epic 54-48, double-overtime win Monday night.

Both teams kicked a field goal in the first overtime but Georgia blocked Oklahoma's field goal attempt in the second overtime, the pivotal moment in overtime. Smith and Reggie Carter stopped wide receiver Jordan Smallwood short of the marker on a third-and-2 run in the first overtime, forcing the Sooners to kick a field goal.

Fromm made the sure the Bulldogs would make the most of it, driving his team 59 yards on seven plays, capped off by a 2-yard run by Nick Chubb out of the Wildcat with 55 seconds left to play. The Sooners had taken a 45-38 lead when Steven Parker returned Michel's fumble for a TD with 6:52 left in the fourth.

After a long wait, the Georgia Bulldogs will return to the field shortly to fight for the right to play for the national championship.

Mayfield responded by leading a tying 88-yard touchdown drive in just six plays ending with 8:47 left in regulation, but the Oklahoma offense didn't reach the end zone again. Bulldogs linebacker Roquan Smith made a game-high 11 tackles and was selected as the defensive player of the game.

Auburn was responsible for Georgia's only loss, a 40-17 defeat on November 11, but the Bulldogs avenged it in the SEC title game. Only two teams in the previous 103 Rose Bowl Games had overcome a double-digit deficit at halftime - Alabama in 1926 and MI in 1989. That game was at the Rose Bowl, although it wasn't the official Rose Bowl game, which was between Ohio State and OR that season.

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was 23-of-35 for 287 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, and running back Rodney Anderson rushed for 201 yards and two touchdowns in a losing effort. He had one pass intercepted.

Fromm finished the first half by completing 12 of 12 passes for 109 yards and the touchdown toss to Michel.

The Sooners outgained the Bulldogs, 531 yards to 527, and led 24-21 in first downs and 32:58-27:02 in time of possession.
