Paul Pierce doesn't want Isaiah Thomas tribute on his ceremony day

That night is the first that the Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers will meet in which former Boston guard Isaiah Thomas will be active to play.

For his part, Thomas said his tribute "ain't the whole night" and that he "would be honored" to have the Celtics celebrate his achievements.

The potential problem for the Celtics is that, after February 11, Thomas's Cavs won't make another trip to Boston this season, except possibly in the playoffs, when a tribute to an opposing player could feel even more out of place.

Thomas received a tribute of sorts as well in Wednesday's game.

The Boston Celtics just can't win with Nick Wright. At 25-13, Cleveland is now sitting in 3rd place in the Eastern Conference, 4.5 games back of the 31-10 Celtics. But not everyone seems happy about it, especially not Celtics legend Paul Pierce.

"That's Pierce's night", Thomas said. "I just wanted my family to be here to see it", Thomas said Wednesday (via the AP), after he watched his Cleveland Cavaliers lose in Boston, 102-88.

Danny Ainge confirmed on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher and Rich Thursday morning that the Celtics will air their Isaiah Thomas tribute video on February 11 - the same day as Paul Pierce's jersey retirement ceremony.

Pierce was drafted 10th overall in the 1998 NBA Draft and spent 15 seasons with the Celtics. And I wanted my family to experience the love and appreciation this city and this organization was going to give me on that night. Judging from Paul Pierce's latest tweet, The Truth may end up setting someone on fire (metaphorically) in fewer than 280 characters. "But if they choose to do it that night, that would be great, and I will be honored, and my family and friends can see how much they appreciated me here". He played 15 years here. "I would be honored".
