Officers from the Houston Police Department went to the Hyatt Regency Downtown on December 31, after receiving a call from an off-duty colleague.

Just hours before New Year's celebrations, police arrested a man on multiple charges after discovering a small arsenal of guns in his top floor hotel room at the Hyatt Regency in Houston.

Officers found weapons both in the man's hotel room and in his auto. The suspect, who police say was intoxicated and belligerent, was being arrested for trespassing when an HPD officer found some ammunition lying around in his room.

The first officers to respond had to call for backup when the boozed up man refused to comply with their orders, Macintosh told the Houston Chronicle website.

The suspect was arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon and trespassing but was too drunk for police to immediately to interview him.

"At this point, our investigators do not believe there was any kind of intent by him to use the weapons or to cause any kind of issue". The hotel is planning a big bash for New Year's Eve, one that includes the dropping of 50,000 balloons at midnight.

NBC reporter Jacob Rascon said on Twitter that the Hyatt Hotel had planned celebrations for Sunday night in honor of the 40th anniversary of Houston's New Year's Eve party and expected hundreds of guests to join.
