With Liverpool facing the imminent departure of their star playmaker Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, the Merseyside club have cast their eye to possible replacements - and one comes in the shape of Leicester City's Riyad Mahrez.
Mahrez has scored seven goals and provided seven assists in the Premier League this season having rediscovered his scintillating form which earned him numerous accolades during the Foxes title winning season. The 26-year-old has scored seven goals and provided seven assists in 22 appearances in the Premier League so far this season, nearly identical stats to that of the the Barcelona bound Brazilian, who also has seven goals but only six assists.
Arsenal were also heavily linked with Mahrez over the past two summers, as were Chelsea, but neither followed up initial interest with a bid for the player.
When asked whether Mahrez had asked to leave this transfer window, he added: "No".
The Reds would face competition though as Arsenal are also known to be keen.
And the Reds are wasting no time in looking for a replacement for the Brazilian, with Mahrez in their sights.
Long-linked with Thomas Lemar, 22, of Monaco, the Reds ardour for the player has been dampened by both Monaco's owners and manager declaring the mercurial midfielder is not for sale this winter.
