The 22-year-old was named the victor on Tuesday morning after validating his ticket at a supermarket in Castlebridge in the Republic of Ireland and he is believed to have collected his winnings from the National Lottery's headquarters in Dublin on Tuesday afternoon.
Preston North End's Kevin O'Connor was visiting family in Ireland when he found out he had won a million euros.
Peadar posted the ticket to Kevin with the Christmas message saying "I wish you the best of luck", and was one of the first in contact with his godchild to congratulate him.
At 11:58 a.m. Wednesday, the Kansas Lottery will announce the Holiday Millionaire Raffle number that's worth $1 million to the person who has the ticket.
"One could not meet a nicer person or family".
"Kevin got to where he is today the hard way".
"I don't think the win has sunk in yet", he said.
"I have no immediate plans but it will take a few days before we make any decisions".
Earlier in his career O'Connor was also an excellent Gaelic football player having played underage for Wexford, for his local club Shelmaliers and St Peter's College, Wexford, where he received his second level education.
O'Connor is set to return to his club in time for their FA Cup third round tie against Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park on Saturday.
