Four policemen were killed on Saturday morning when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detonated by suspected militants in Baramulla's Sopore. The deployment of police had taken place at 9am, an hour before the blast.
The cops belonged to the 3rd Battalion of Indian Reserve Police (IRP).
The report also identified three of the four policemen as ASI Irshad Ahmad from Doda, Muhammad Amin from Kupwara and Ghulam Nabi from Sopore. "My deepest condolences to their families", she said in a tweet. This is first IED blast since 2015 and indicates to the renewed strategy of terrorists after the revival of JeM outfit. These young policemen were killed when they were on duty to protect the people in the town., Mufti said here.
Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed sorrow over the deaths. The impact of the blast was so huge that it damaged six shops and created a carter. "May the four courageous J&K police personnel killed in the line of duty today rest in piece".
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Munir Khan, who rushed to the town immediately, told media persons that it was after three years that an IED attack had been carried out in Kashmir.
"We will put our heads together and chalk out some new strategies to tackle this thing, he said. The two injured were shifted to hospital", a police officer said.
