East Midlands Trains said Nottingham Station had been evacuated and the fire services are on site working to contain the fire to re-open the station.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service sent eight appliances to the scene.

Emergency services have been called to the Nottingham station to deal with a fire.

Around 60 firefighters tackled the blaze this morning after it broke out in a block of toilets before spreading to the main concourse and then roof.

The tram network has since resumed its service but is not stopping at Nottingham station. The station has been evacuated and there have been no reports of any injuries to customers or staff.

Services across the north were hit yesterday when members of the RMT union walked out again in a long-running dispute over the roles of train guards.

East Midlands Trains, which manages the station, tweeted: "Please do not travel to Nottingham station this morning as trains will be unable to run and we are unable to provide road support to/from the station".

Which? said that special "strike day" timetables issued by rail companies would in many cases remove the right to refunds for trains that would normally have run.

Trains from London St Pancras will terminate at East Midlands Parkway, while trains from Cardiff Central, Birmingham New Street and Matlock will terminate at Derby until further notice.

Nottingham station recently completed a £50 million redevelopment, which included restoration on the Grade II-listed front building. She said there were no reported casualties. "You can see billowing smoke and flames above the roof on the far side".
