Colts expected to fire Chuck Pagano

Colts Part Ways With Head Coach Chuck Pagano

Colts fire Chuck Pagano after 6 seasons

The arranged marriage of Colts head coach Chuck Pagano and general manager Chris Ballard lasted just one year. WISH-TV's Anthony Calhoun first reported the firing.

But the team failed to compile a winning record the past three seasons as they were hampered by multiple injuries to quarterback Andrew Luck.

Following an inspirational 2012 season in which Pagano overcame his battle with leukemia and the Colts rallied to the playoffs, he formed The CHUCKSTRONG Foundation, which has raised more than $4.7 million for cancer research over the past five years. From 2012-17, Pagano's unit ranked above 19th in total defense (11th in 2014) and points allowed (9th in 2013) once.

Pagano led the Colts to four wins but Indianapolis finished with their worst record since 2011, when Peyton Manning was sidelined to undergo fusion surgery on his neck.

The Indianapolis Colts are expected to fire head coach Chuck Pagano, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Pagano's early success coincided with Luck starting 54 consecutive games to begin his career. He missed most of that season, played through the injury in 2016, and was not able to play in any games this season.

Ian Rapoport's article on NFL.com lists New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub, and Kansas City's offensive coordinator Matt Nagy as the names to keep an eye on in the Colts' coaching search.

The mystery surrounding Luck's surgically repaired right shoulder - which kept him out the entire season and recently led him to Europe to seek treatment - could serve as an asterisk on the attractiveness of the Colts' vacancy.

"Chuck Pagano provided Colts fans with many exciting wins and memories as head coach of the Colts", said Colts Owner & CEO Jim Irsay.
