It looks like the Chinese brand has fulfilled its promise. The handset - dubbed 'desh ka smartphone - will succeed the Redmi 4A in India and comes packed with some key features never seen before in this price range. There are two versions of the Redmi 5A - an entry-level version that gets 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage and a more expensive, but still affordable version that gets 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

Xiaomi has announced via its Weibo account that the Redmi 5 and 5 Plus smartphones will make their debut on December 7 in China. The phone will features an 8 MP (or 12 MP) rear camera and a 5 MP front camera on the device. The phone is powered by the quad-core Snapdragon 425 chipset.

The camera options on the Redmi 5A include a 13-Megapixel primary camera with f/2.2 and PDAF. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A annihilates the competition (at least on paper) like the Samsung Galaxy J1 Ace or the Micromax Canvas Spark 4G. The Redmi 5A is also clearly targeted at a bunch of popular entry-level smartphones priced under the Rs.7,000 mark in India that sport an underwhelming spec sheet.
