Snow mixed with rain is predicted Friday across Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and into western SC.
This includes areas from Louisiana to parts of Alabama, Georgia and the Carolinas.
Other schools on the south shore planned to be open Friday, as of Thursday afternoon.
Sunday night: A 30 percent chance of snow after 1 a.m., low around 26.
Below freezing air from the north and moisture coming in from the southwest tonight will lead to a good setup to see rain change over into snow after midnight.
A winter weather advisory was issued from 5 a.m. on Friday to 7 a.m. on Saturday.
The good news is that temperatures are likely to stay above freezing Friday, meaning that any snow that falls won't stick except for in elevated, grassy areas, Baker said.
Still, Georgia road crews spread a mixture known as brine on bridges and overpasses to "pre-treat" the roadways in case snow or ice does coat them.

Nobody should be driving summer interstate speeds in winter weather. Soil temperatures are around 50 degrees, and that will greatly limit the accumulation potential. There remain options on the table for this forecast to change.
