The film was earlier slated to hit the theatres on December 1 but has been delayed voluntarily by the makers.

The film stoked controversy over assumptions that it has a dream sequence depicting romance between Rajput warrior queen Padmini and Delhi sultan Alauddin Khilji. People are scared to go to the theatres.

Echoing Mr Patekar, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor spoke to news agency IANS and said, "I feel that (the release of) films in this democracy should not be curbed".

Joshi also informed the panel that the CBFC would appoint a team of experts to look at the content of the film, said sources.

The actor was in conversation with senior journalist Shekhar Gupta at the HT Leadership Summit here. The IT committee chair, BJP's Anurag Thakur, questioned Bhansali over films regularly attracting controversy, resulting in divisiveness and loss of revenue to the entertainment industry.

The Lok Sabha panel took up the issue following a representation by two BJP MPs from Rajasthan - C P Joshi (Chittorgarh) and Om Birla (Kota) - who wanted a ban to be imposed on the film's release.

Salman has worked with Bhansali in three films - "Khamoshi: The Musical", "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" and "Saawariya".

The megastar has "accused" the ace-director of "offending" him, India Time reported.

He added, "I don't think it's fair to hurt anyone's sentiments or to comment on a film without seeing it first". One of the members from the panel spoke to The Hindu and said, "He [Advani] told the chairperson that the panel already has enough on its plate and should not take up unrelated issues". The censor board has in the past taken help from specialists in fields like medicine and defence while clearing movies based on such themes. In this case, there are so many developments, we don't know what is right and what is wrong.

As you read this, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, some members from the production company that has bank rolled the period drama, CFBC Chief Prasoon Joshi are in a meeting with a parliamentary panel to discuss the way ahead to end this whole controversy and furor.
