Penn State returns to Fiesta Bowl to play Washington

Penn State's 1982 national title was also preceded by a 26-10 win over USC in the Fiesta Bowl to close out the 1981 season.

The No. 9 Penn State Nittany Lions have a record six Fiesta Bowl victories. The trip marks Penn State's 48th all-time bowl appearance. The Huskies finished 11th in the final College Football Playoff poll, which put them in the New Years Six bowl.

The Fiesta Bowl will kick off at 2pm on Saturday, December 30th. "We can't wait to see our Penn State family descend on Valley of the Sun to passionately support their Nittany Lions!"

In 2014, the first season of the four-team CFP, Ohio State made it to the national championship game and beat OR 42-20 at AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys that has hosted the Cotton Bowl since the 2009 season. He was the Big Ten offensive player of the year.

This is Penn State's seventh appearance in the Fiesta Bowl, which is the most of any bowl in program history. That game was played at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz. Ohio State and ASU both have five Fiesta Bowl wins.
