First Lady Melania Trump and Second Lady Karen Pence will be visiting the Coastal Bend Wednesday to meet with families affected by Hurricane Harvey and the first responders who are part of the recovery effort.
Melania and Karen were visiting coastal Texas to meet with first responders and victims of Hurricane Harvey, and chose to stop at one of the chain's restaurants, which is popular for its burgers.
White House Communications Director Stephanie Grisham tweeted a picture of Trump and Pence at a Whataburger in Corpus Christi Wednesday afternoon. The chain has been family-owned since opening its first burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1950.
The motorcade also stopped at a Whataburger, so the first and second ladies could grab lunch.
THe pair were joined by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's wife Cecilia and Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush.
"Y'all @FLOTUS @SecondLady bought me, @CallerElly and @Caller_Casey @Whataburger #melaniaInTX", tweeted Julie Garcia, reporter for Texas newspaper the Caller Times. They are here for ongoing help for #HurricaneHarvey.
The group also visited an elementary school in Aransas Pass and helped boxes meals at the food bank. They will then travel to Rockport to meet a family whose home was destroyed in the storm, and tour the home's remains. She'll tour their property and see their temporary FEMA supplied housing.
The category four storm ravaged Texas in late August, killing at least 60 people.
