The 42-13 win over Southern Miss in the Independence Bowl showed that a return to power should come sooner rather than later.

The Seminoles (6-6) will meet the Golden Eagles (8-4) at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Independence Stadium. The game will air on ESPN and is set for a 1:30 p.m. ET time kickoff. The Hawkeyes have played in a bowl game in all but two seasons since 2001.

Florida State is making its 36th straight bowl appearance. Willie Taggart's taken over after Fisher's departure, and all that leaving d-line and interim head coach Odell Haggins answering questions like this today in Shreveport! It's about the team and Florida State University.

Former national title-winning head coach Jimbo Fisher won't be roaming the sidelines in the season-opener for the first time in recent memory, instead former OR coach Willie Taggart will do so.

"As I've said before, everybody tries to talk about me, but this is about the players", Haggins said Tuesday morning. While Southern Miss didn't win its division, this looks to be one of the better teams that Conference USA has to offer.

In the first quarter, Southern Miss was flagged four times for offsides while FSU was hit with a pair of 15-yard penalties, including roughing the punter, that greatly aided the Eagles on an opening drive that ended with a touchdown.

After Ricky Aguayo connected on a 39-yard field goal early in the third, running back Jacques Patrick put the game out of reach with a 2-yard touchdown run to make it 33-6. "We're going to go out and give it all we've got, I'll tell you that".

FSU will be without three of its top defensive players.

► Fisher departed the day before the Seminoles' final regular-season game. "Like I said before, everybody talk about me, no it's about our players".

Nnadi wants to help Haggins win one more game and help the Seminoles clinch their 41st consecutive winning season.

The FSU defense held the Southern Miss defense to just 138 yards, with quarterback Kwadra Griggs' five-yard run accounting for the Golden Eagles' only first-half points.
