You can nearly say that the day the NY police officer took Eric Garner's life unnecessarily with a vicious chokehold in Staten Island in 2014, he also squeezed out most of the life of his daughter Erica.

Activist Erica Garner, daughter of police chokehold victim Eric Garner, was declared brain dead with no chance of recovery Thursday after suffering a massive heart attack over the holiday weekend.

This was not the first heart attack that Garner experienced, says Snipes. The elder Garner had been put into a chokehold by an officer with the New York Police Department and could be heard pleading, "I can't breathe!"

"Please continue to pray hard for Erica and pray for her family and kids just as much", it added. Someone operating Erica's Twitter account then revealed that she'd suffered brain damage "from lack of oxygen while in cardiac arrest". Chokeholds are prohibited by the NYPD, and a ruling by the New York City medical examiner found Eric Garner died due to "compression of neck (choke hold)".

She became an outspoken and sometimes controversial activist following his death, holding marches and speaking often to the media about her father's case. Snipes declined to name the hospital where her daughter was being treated.

Erica Garner, the daughter of slain Staten Island man Eric Garner, was reported to be brain dead by several outlets Thursday (Dec. 28).

She has been in a coma since then, it said. She became a prominent civil rights leader and met former U.S. President Barack Obama in 2016.
