Bumrah earns call-up for SA Tests

India’s squad for South Africa tour to be named today


Uncapped pacer Jasprit Bumrah has received his maiden Test call-up, while Parthiv Patel has been selected as the back-up wicketkeeper for the three-match Test series against South Africa.

Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma - were also certainties just like spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. 24-year-old Hardik Pandya, who demanded rests for the Test series against Sri Lanka makes his comeback to Virat Kohli's squad. The pacer, who has been an indispensable part of India's limited-overs team, has staked his claim for a position in Test team with his control and consistency, and the pacer picked himself with his performances in the limited-overs, according to the chief selector MSK Prasad. "Considering the his brilliant performance in last year's Ranji Trophy, he was an unanimous choice", Prasad said.

India's squad for the much-awaited tour to South Africa will be named on Monday after the end of day's play between India and South Africa, a BCCI release confirmed.

The first of the three Tests will be played in Cape Town, starting 5th January, while Centurion and Johannesburg will host the next two Tests, starting 13th and 24th January respectively.

T20I series vs Sri Lanka: Rohit (Capt), Rahul, Shreyas, Manish, Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni, Hardik, W Sundar, Yuzvendra, Kuldeep, Deepak Hooda, Bumrah, M Siraj, Basil Thampi, Jaydev Unadkat.

India will play three Tests, six ODIs and three T20 matches during the tour of South Africa which will kick off with a warm-up game in Paarl on December 30.
