This, along with winds gusting past 25 miles per hour, creates a wind chill factor of 20 to 30 degrees below zero.
Models are predicting an area of low pressure to move across the northern Gulf on Sunday into Monday, and with cold temperatures in place it could generate some snow or other kinds of frozen precipitation across the state.
Stephen Latimer, meteorologist for the National Weather Service office in Huntsville, said wind chills will add to the bitterness of the temperatures.
The lake effect snow belts of western and northern NY will bear the brunt of the arctic air, with temperatures averaging at least 15 degrees below normal for this time of year.

Another morning with unsafe wind chills

The high on Tuesday will be in the mid 20s, but will fall into the single digits overnight and peak in the low 20s and teens during the day, the weather service forecast shows. Snow showers start out weekend and are possible through the day Saturday. Sunday, New Year's Eve Day, will be mostly sunny, but a strong northwest wind will send wind chills plummeting once again.
