"I would like to affirm the Syrian Arab Republic's commitment to the Paris climate change accord", deputy Environment Minister Wadah Katmawi told a meeting of nearly 200 nations at November 6-17 climate talks in Bonn, Germany.

Calling it "Draconian" and "onerous", Trump in June said "the Paris Climate Accord is simply the latest example of Washington entering into an agreement that disadvantages the United States to the exclusive benefit of other countries, leaving American workers - who I love - and taxpayers to absorb the cost in terms of lost jobs, lower wages, shuttered factories, and vastly diminished economic production". "We want the United States in too".

The attendees of the United Nations (UN) climate talks yesterday (Nov 7) witnessed a historical moment when Syria announced that it will become a signatory of the Paris Climate Agreement - subsequently isolating the United States, who abandoned the framework that was created to tackle climate change in June of this year. That leaves the USA as the sole country to reject the agreement, a global effort to combat climate change.

Meyer said businesses, mayors, cities and other groups were also stepping up actions to limit greenhouse gas emissions that scientists link to more droughts, heat waves, floods and rising sea levels. Tesla CEO Elon Musk resigned from Trump's business council in protest.

White House spokeswoman Kelly Love said the United States hasn't changed its position on climate change and pointed to a statement by the Trump administration when Nicaragua joined the agreement.

The news about Syria came during the second day of the United Nations' Climate Change Conference in Bonn, Germany.

It will then take one year to fully withdraw, meaning the earliest the United States could officially withdraw is the day after the 2020 election.

On Oct. 23, Nicaragua announced it would join the Paris accord, despite its previous reservations.

"The December 12 summit aims to bring together key players in the world of climate and finance". Many delegates said they hoped Trump would reconsider. "For the warming over the last century, there is no convincing alternative explanation supported by the extent of observational evidence".
