US Navy plane has 'unsafe' encounter with Russian jet

Russian Federation has scrambled a Su-30 fighter jet after detecting an American Р8А Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft over the Black Sea, according to a Defense Ministry statement. Russian Federation has access to the Black Sea but so do three US allies, as well as occasional military training partners Ukraine and Georgia.

"The US aircraft was operating in worldwide airspace and did nothing to provoke this Russian behavior". During the last months, similar incidents were registered in the zone of the Baltic Sea and near the Russian western enclave of Kaliningrad, in the Kamchatka peninsula, near the us state of Alaska and in other regions.

The Russian Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jet reportedly crossed in front of the U.S. P-8A Poseidon aircraft on November 25, flying as close as 50 feet, and turned on its afterburners, Lt. Col. Michelle Baldanza, a Pentagon spokeswoman, told CNN.

The tense incident occurred when the Russian Su-30 flew in front of the United States plane from left to right, causing it to enter its jet wash and roll 15 degrees.

A Su-30 fighter jet identified it as an American reconnaissance aircraft, P8-A Poseidon, it said.

"Americans have nothing to do in the Black Sea".

In June, the pilot of a USA bomber filmed the nail-biting moment a Russian fighter jet swooped alongside him over the Baltic Sea.

"On November 25, Russian means of monitoring airspace spotted an air target over an worldwide area of the Black Sea that was approaching the state border at a high speed".

"After Russia's annexation of Ukraine's Crimea in 2014, Turkey has said the absence of a regional North Atlantic Treaty Organisation force in the Black Sea allows Moscow to shape the sea like "[almost] a Russian lake".
