Rapper Lil Peep, a budding star whose emotional, downtrodden lyrics gained a cult following online, died of a suspected drug overdose Wednesday night. At the time of his death, Lil Peep was dating Arazylea - who is 5 Seconds of Summer member Luke Hemming's ex-girlfriend. "I don't feel good man". Sgt. Pete Dugan said evidence pointed to an overdose of the anti-anxiety medication Xanax, although no official cause of death has been announced.
Peep's death was later confirmed by First Access Entertainment's Sarah Stennett, who said in a statement, "I am shocked and heartbroken".
Lil Peep performed at the Cambridge Room in Cleveland's House Of Blues on October 23, just a few weeks before his death.
Born Gustav Åhr, the Long Island rapper and singer blended emo and hip hop for a distinctive singing and rapping style which often highlighted his drug use.
In all, Ahr released four mixtapes, one album and six EPs in his brief career, having been described as "The future of emo", by music magazine Pitchfork. Less in-your-face than many Peep songs, it demonstrates Peep and his producers' overlooked flair for subtlety, with the beat fluidly morphing as Peep plays around with his flow. "Life didn't do your greatness justice". "When I die You'll love me", he said later in a photo shared on his page. "I don't express that side of myself on social media".
Peep's manager, Chase Ortega, reportedly annouced the sad news on his private Twitter account.
One thing is for sure, Lil Peep loved and appreciated his fans until the end. I recorded every song I've ever done in GarageBand myself, and it's very homemade.
Bella Thorne, who was once linked to Peep, tweeted, "F- I don't know what to say".
