The body of the official was recovered from an orchard area in Watmullah Keegam area of Shopian, a police official said. "The troops enjoyed being with him", army sources said, adding, "He didn't think twice about going to his village unarmed".

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday condemned the killing of a Territorial Army soldier Irfan Ahmed Dar at Shopian in the state.

"He was perhaps kidnapped by militants".

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called the killing of the sodier as a "reprehensible act".

Irfan is the third off-duty soldier from Kashmir to have been abducted and killed by terrorists in the past few months. Residents discovered the body and his vehicle a few kilometers away from his home.

On May 10, suspected militants abducted and later killed a 22-year-old Army officer in the Shopian district. "Such heinous acts will not weaken our resolve to establish peace and normalcy in the Valley", Mehbooba said on Twitter. He had come home on vacation when terrorists abducted him along with his auto. "The matter is being investigated by the police", said Srinagar-based army PRO. "My unqualified condemnation & heartfelt condolences to his family". In May, Lt Umar Fayaz was killed in the same area after terrorists kidnapped him from a marriage party in Kulgam district.

Similarly, on September 28 unidentified gunmen had killed Border Security Force (BSF) soldier Ramzan Parray at his residence in Hajin, Bandipora district.
