Vincenzo Montella may have been fired from his position as AC Milan manager this morning and unnecessarily tagged in a Twitter post informing everyone of that fact, but the former Roma striker has taken his dismissal with good grace. "We are very grateful to Montella and his staff for all the work done up to today, their commitment and professionalism", AC Milan said in a statement.
Gattuso was previously manager of the club's youth team.
The move came with Milan in seventh place in Serie A having failed to score in their last four home games, where they have not win since a 2-0 win against SPAL on September 20.
An ex-Italy global, Gattuso, 39, played for Milan between 1999 and 2013, and won two Serie A winners' medals at the club, along with two Champions League titles, two UEFA Super Cups and the Coppa Italia.
Instead AC Milan went for Nikola Kalinic who started his adevnture well with the Rossoneri scoring twice against Udinese but since then he has been very poor and the Milan faithful have grown tired of the Croatian striker as exemplified earlier today when he was brought off against Torino and was thoroughly booed and jeered.
He was also a mainstay of the Italy side that won the World Cup in 2002, and was inducted into the Milan Hall of Fame in 2009.
Montella had been under pressure from right back at the beginning of the season with Milan spending around £200 million in order to power their way back to the top of the Italian game.
