Former Super Eagles star Michael Emenalo quits Chelsea, set for Monaco

According to a report on the UK Telegraph, Emenalo made a decision to leave after declining not to engage in a three-way power battle with current Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and Marina Granovskaia who are known not to see eye to eye.

Emenalo has been a driving force behind the club's policy to send a host of young starlets away from the club to further develop and Chelsea now have 34 players out on loan. That will likely only become apparent when the power that Emenalo has left vacant at Chelsea is re-assigned.

"This has been a very hard decision to make, but one I believe is right for both myself and my family, and the club", Emenalo said. I wish Chelsea every success and look forward to following the club's future triumphs from afar, ' he added. Of course, no one will have expected Chelsea's statement to include a message from Roman Abramovich telling us all how he feels about his close ally walking out of the club he owns, but it is his thoughts that will determine just how significant this departure turns out to be.

The move to bring his 10-year association with the club to an end may be viewed in some quarters as a victory for Conte, but Emenalo said he remained supportive of the Italian who he helped to appoint last year.

"We will now be reviewing our management structure, and Michael will be a part of that process as we look ahead".

Chelsea's off-field intrigue continued yesterday when Conte dropped central defender David Luiz from the squad to play Manchester United, which lead to Sky Sports' Gary Neville claiming that the Chelsea boss could 'lose his job' over the incident. I have enjoyed working with him very much, we celebrated a Premier League title together in May, and I wish him the very best for the future'.
