The 99th annual Tulsa Veterans Day parade gets underway at 11 a.m.at the corner of 3rd and Boston.
The parade started in downtown Clarksville by the historic courthouse.
The day before the parade, members from the association will be cleaning the outside area near the U.S.S. Kidd.
Long Beach will host its 21st annual Veterans Day Parade beginning at 10 a.m.at South Street and Elm Avenue. Tulsa's annual parade is the largest in the region and one of the largest in the nation.
Veterans from every branch of the military took part, from World War II to Afghanistan and Iraq. Gen. Robert J. Skinner, deputy commander, Air Force Space Command, Peterson Air Force Base, was the other grand marshal.
Joe Arneson, who spent his years in the U.S. Army in California training men to fight in the Vietnam War, said the parade and the thanks made the day special. "It was great to have the parade again". The retired Air Force colonel served in Iraq in 2003 and 2004 and was in the Pentagon during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack.
"They don't realize people get killed in war", Cohen said in a somber tone as he stood near a Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America bus before the event began.
