Both Matos and Kiyam know India are placed in a tough group alongside the experienced USA, Colombia and Ghana. The Southern Asian side has never participated in a U17 World Cup and should not have a memorable opening game or a memorable run in this competition.

The U-17 Indian football team. Playing in their maiden Federation Internationale de Football Association tournament, rank outsiders India were outclassed by a side that was a few notches above the "Boys in Blue". It took them half an hour time to break the Indian defensive line.

Indian coach Luis Norton de Matos tried to shrug off the first match blues saying, "The one thing that is important for us is that every game, we're going to learn". Being 17 years old, it was our first time playing in front of 45000 people.

"At the end of the day, we must be proud of our will to win. We want to fight as a team and with help from the 12th man (the home supporters) we hope we can compete against them", he further added. "We are all set for the Colombia game and we'll give it everything".

Black Starlets coach Paa Kwesi is feeling buoyant in ahead of their opening match in the U-17 FIFA World Cup in India. The overall strategy that saw the side pack the defense in their own half for much of the contest was a sound one. They attacked well in the starting periods but couldn't find the back of the net.

Speaking to the media after Saturday's practice session, Wangjam made it clear that even though they were boxed in their own half for long parts of the first period during their opening game against USA, the idea wasn't to keep defending for the 90 minutes.

A hint of bad luck put India two goals behind early in the second half. True, US won, but the Indians earned appreciation for putting up a good fight. IN the first 20 minutes, both the teams got off to a slow starting, with some of the U.S. players aiming for a shot on target, but failing. It could have been a different match with the hosts scoring a goal.

But the ricochet from Ali's shot hitting the post led to United States counter, at the end of which Andrew Carleton made it 3-0 to put things beyond India's reach.

When will India vs Colombia match be played?

So it was very hard to stay in touch with our families and while we were leaving for the tournament they were anxious.

"USA played seven worldwide games in the last two months as part of preparations".

The game was heading towards the end, but an attack by the U.S. successfully completed when Andrew Carleton scored the third goal in the 84th minute. But those were practice or friendly matches mostly. They are physical and need to win against to keep their qualification chances alive.
