London's Metropolitan police force said it had received an allegation of sexual assault from the Merseyside force in northwest England.

In the wake of the scandal, Weinstein - who has denied numerous allegations against him - is believed to have checked into rehab, and his wife Georgina Chapman has left him, while he has also been slammed by big names in Hollywood, including Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet, George Clooney, Angelina Jolie, and Dame Judi Dench.

Weinstein and his brother Bob, co-founders of Miramax Films, burst onto the indie scene with "Sex, Lies and Videotape" in 1989 and turned relatively low-budget films like "Shakespeare in Love" and "Pulp Fiction" into huge box-office hits.

The NYPD's special victims unit detectives are being told to identify and interview potential victims, including those who have told their stories to the media, the AP reported, citing an anonymous law enforcement source.

Actress Asia Argento and a former aspiring actress named Lucia Stoller say Weinstein forced himself on them sexually.

British actress Romola Garai tells the Guardian that she felt "violated" when Weinstein auditioned her as an 18-year-old, saying that he had answered the door to his hotel room in a bathrobe. However, some assaults described in the New Yorker piece took place in NY, where first-degree sexual assault has no time limit.

The producer has apologized for his behavior and acknowledged having "caused a lot of pain", but denied specific charges and threatened to sue the Times.

Cohen's letter to the board did not describe the contents of Harvey Weinstein's file, nor did it address whether Weinstein had entered into private settlements with women who complained of misconduct.

Weinstein has issued multiple statements in the past week, including a comment to paparazzi on Wednesday outside his daughter's Los Angeles home. I gotta get help, guys.

NY detectives already investigated Weinstein once, in 2015, when an Italian model said the studio executive grabbed her breasts and groped her. Detectives set up a sting where they recorded a conversation between the woman and Weinstein while he tried to persuade her to come into his hotel room.

"Why yesterday you touch my breast?" Evans said she met Weinstein when she was in college in 2004 at the club Cipriani Upstairs and then another time at his office. I'm used to that.

In the audio of their conversation which was released by the magazine, Weinstein can be heard apologizing for grabbing her breast and then repeatedly pressuring her to come into his hotel room. But the Manhattan District Attorney determined there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute, and the statute of limitations on the allegations of forcible touching, a misdemeanor, have expired.

"I, like they, were very disturbed by the contents of the tape. And our sex crime prosecutors made a determination that this was not going to be a provable case, and so the decision was made not to go forward". NY state has no statute of limitations on most serious felonies, including rape.

Cannes film festival officials say they have been "dismayed" to learn about the accusations of sexual violence against Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein.
