For Amy, the casting announcement comes after she dropped out of starring in the live-action "Barbie" movie earlier this year due to "scheduling conflicts". Schumer will play one half of one couple alongside Alan Tudyk, and the other couple will be played by Tony victor Laura Benanti (Gypsy) and Keegan-Michael Key of "Key and Peele".
Meteor Shower will also mark Key's first Broadway production, after previously taking to the stage in the Off-Broadway rendition of Hamlet.
In Meteor Shower, Schumer will play a woman, Corky, who hosts a dinner party at her home in California with her husband, Norm. "He is my friend and I just love him and can't believe I get to be in his play on BROADWAY!"
The design team for Meteor Shower includes Tony Award-winner Beowulf Borritt (Scenic Design), Tony and Academy Award-winner Ann Roth (Costume Design), six-time Tony Award-winner Natasha Katz (Lighting Design), and two-time Drama Desk Award-winner Fitz Patton (Sound Design). Meteor Shower will be his second Broadway production following Bright Star, whichenjoyed a short Broadway run in 2016 and garnered Martin two Tony nominations.
"A meteor shower actually came to me first", Martin told the San Diego Tribune on writing the play. "Because I had a psychological interpretation of who everybody was, and that gave me something to write from".
Previews begin November 1st with an opening night of November 29th.
Schumer is also set to star in the movie I Feel Pretty alongside Emily Ratajkowski, where she'll play a normal woman who falls and wakes up thinking she's the most lovely and capable woman alive.
As a result, Renee believes she's drop dead gorgeous, and she even gets promoted at work because of her newfound self-confidence.
