The 30-year-old faces Badou Jack, the Swedish-born boxer promoted by Mayweather who is moving up a weight after a two-year stint as WBC world super middleweight champion, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 26.
Earlier in the day, McGregor finally addressed the drama for the first time and offered his side of the story.
Wearing a robe made for him by fashion designer Donatella Versace, emblazoned with his name and "Notorious" nickname in gold on the back, McGregor said he felt in "pristine condition" as he had his hands wrapped for the workout. Multiple times the ropes kept him on his feet. We don't think he can go past four rounds.
"He got his ego dented and then off he went through the door, an exit presented itself for him and he took it 100 miles an hour because he needed to get out of there, he couldn't continue". He was certainly badly concussed.
As we mentioned earlier, pictures surfaced online of McGregor apparently putting Malignaggi on the canvas, but Malignaggi later dismissed the shot of of him on the mat as a "pushdown" rather than a knockout shot. I know he's fast, I know he's got good reflexes, I know he's experienced.
"I have to worry about what I have to go out there and do, I'm not overlooking him". "There's never been a boxing event that generated as much interest from casual fans; we have already passed the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight in certain categories on the worldwide side", he said, asserting that there was already $60 million in the hopper which, according to Ellerbe, is more than double what is now in the till for the Golovkin-Alvarez fight in September, an event that reportedly has already sold out.
The footage shows McGregor's infamous "knockdown" of Malignaggi in the ring. I'll meet him maybe after the fight!
"In my opinion, this was the best thing for him", McGregor said.
"All of these record-breaking events and the numbers that are associated with that, all is because of Floyd Mayweather". You know what I mean?
"When it's all said and done it comes down to the two competitors".
Mayweather on Thursday called Malignaggi a friend.
"Lets [sic] see how August 26th plays out, that one is around the corner".
