After 32 Years Microsoft Is Killing Off Paint For Good

Besides, the basic app will also be integrated with the company's Paint 3D app, which was introduced back in April with the Windows 10 Creators Update. Microsoft Paint is here to stay and it is not going anywhere, anytime soon.

"This list is intended to help customers consider these removals and deprecations for their own planning". As such, it is being moved into its own branch, or fork, which Microsoft is naming "RS3_RELEASE" to differentiate it from other release branches like Current Branch (which is on the Creators Update, or version 1703).

A Welsh YouTuber Chaotic indicate that Paint is "the best art to have ever prevailed" - perhaps with tongue in cheek.

"Today, we've seen an incredible outpouring of support and nostalgia around MS Paint", wrote Megan Saunders, general manager of 3D at Microsoft in a blog post.

Earlier this month Microsoft revealed in a support article that its marking its MSPaint.exe as "depreciated" in the upcoming Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. The next update, also known as the Autumn Creators Update will contain a lot of new features like Cortana Setup, Game Mode, Picture in Picture and Night Light but it will also be devoid of many existing ones including Paint, Reader's App, Screen Saver, Outlook Express etc. From digitally drawing an illustration to writing using the mouse, the application was able to cater to the needs of all people. Since then, it has been included in its every release until now.

The program was released in 1985 with the first version of Windows 1.0.

But I think developers sometimes fail to appreciate the value of comfort and familiarity where products are concerned.

Saunders didn't say when Paint would be transitioned over to a Store app, nor did she mention whether it would still be developed - or just preserved in amber. You will have the ability to specify a time that is convenient for you, snooze pending updates for a few days, and expand the "active hours" time window during which you don't want to be disturbed by an update.
